Come embrace life, death, family, community, and the art of ritual by participating in this year's Mendocino Coast Day of the Dead Celebration.

Our goal is to provide awareness and education of the meaningful traditions of Dia de los Muertos festivities by sponsoring and promoting activities that celebrate this holiday. Mendocino County is home to over 3,000 types of mushrooms, 500 of which are edible. And every fall, beginning in October, when the gentle rains begin to fall, the mushrooms flourish in abundance.

Join naturalist Ryane Snow, Ph.D. for a foraging walk. Meet in the Stanford Inn lobby for an introductory mushroom talk before heading out to explore the local forests and meadows  $30/person. Children under 16 free. Private tours can be arranged. The Ravens’ Restaurant and Meyer Family Vineyard’s Mushroom Dinner – Saturday, November 12, 2011; 6:30 p.m.
Join our team of culinary experts and Stanford Inn’s Wine Director Brendan McGuigan and Meyer Family Vineyards for an evening of gourmet vegan cuisine and wine pairing, inspired the Mendocino fungi.  You’ll enjoy five courses that will celebrate the marriage of mushrooms and Mendocino County Pinot Noir wines.  The event will include guest speaker and local mushroom expert Ryane Snow Ph.D.  $85 per person (excludes tax and gratuity). 

From Forest to Table - A Wild Mushroom Ecological and Gastronomical Experience - Stanford Inn by the Sea – Saturday November 5th , 2011 Noon - 5:00 p.m; November 12th, 2011. Noon – 5:00 p.m.
Join naturalist Ryane Snow, Ph.D. and the creative team at the Ravens for a fun-filled afternoon of mushroom gathering and mushroom cookery.  Begin with lunch – a sampling of our culinary approach to Northern California’s mushrooms and an introduction to local fungi.  After your introduction head out into the forests and meadows for a foraging walk.  Return to the Inn for a tutorial on mushroom identification, cleaning and prepping.  Limited to 40 people; $70/person (excludes gratuity to the Inn’s serving staff).

Introduction to Medicinal Mushrooms with Breakfast - The Raven’s Restaurant – Sunday, November 6th, and Friday, November 11th 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Often the first question when encountering a new mushroom is “Is it edible or poisonous?”  But a more interesting question is “How can this mushroom improve my health?”  Join Ryane Snow, Ph.D., local mushroom expert and classical Chinese medical practitioner, for a fascinating look into the medicinal uses of mushrooms while enjoying a breakfast featuring local, health-promoting mushrooms. $40/person (excludes tax and gratuity).  Limit 40 People.
